AC Repair in Roswell, GA

Twenty-six free-flow minutes east on GA-92. Nearly a third of this town's houses went up in one decade, and the thing that decade left behind is a very particular kind of mismatch.

The indoor half is usually older than the outdoor half

The 1980s account for close to a third of the housing here — the tightest single-decade concentration of any town on the north side. A whole town of systems reached the end of their first life inside a few years of each other, and a great many of them got half a replacement: a new condenser in the driveway, the original coil and air handler left inside because it was cheaper that afternoon. We find the evidence constantly — a condenser with a manufacture date fifteen years newer than the coil it is feeding. It matters for a repair because a mismatched pair never had a published performance rating to be measured against, so the target subcooling on the outdoor unit's data plate is describing a system you do not have. Charging one of these to the sticker will get you a system that is wrong in a way nobody can find later. We diagnose the pair, tell you what is actually installed, and say plainly when the honest answer is that the numbers cannot be made to agree.

The same thing is true wherever you are

A refrigerant top-off with no leak search is not a repair. Refrigerant is not consumed — if the charge is low, it left through a hole, and it will leave again through the same hole. Any shop can sell you a pound of refrigerant on a hot afternoon and you will be pleased with them for about six weeks. We will find the leak and price fixing it, and if you want a charge to get you through a weekend while you decide, we will do that too and tell you plainly what it is buying you. We also will not quote a repair over the phone. Anyone who does is quoting a part they have not seen on a system they have not measured.

Questions people ask

  • How fast can you get here?

Often the same day during business hours. Nights, weekends and holidays we run an emergency rotation and a technician calls you back. Comfort Club members get scheduled ahead of non-members, which is most of what people join for in July.

  • Do you charge for the diagnostic?

Yes, there is a flat diagnostic fee for a service call, and we tell you what it is on the phone before we dispatch. It is waived for Gold and Platinum Comfort Club members.

  • My system is low on refrigerant. Can you just add some?

We can, and on its own that is a bad deal for you. Refrigerant does not get used up — if it is low, it left through a leak, and it will leave again. We will find the leak and price the repair. If you want a charge to get through a weekend while you decide, we will do that too, and tell you plainly what it is buying you.

  • Repair or replace?

The rule of thumb we actually use: if the repair is more than about a third of a replacement and the system is past twelve, replacement usually wins. Under that, fix it. The refrigerant a system uses moves that line too, because an older refrigerant on a leaking coil changes the arithmetic.

  • Do you work on systems you did not install?

    Yes, on any residential brand.
