AC Repair in Holly Springs, GA

The closest town on our list, eleven free-flow minutes up the interstate. It is also the town where we most often end a service call by telling somebody not to replace their system.

Almost nothing here is old enough to be dying

The typical system in this town went in with the house between about 2010 and 2019, which makes it eight to sixteen years old. That is an age with a very characteristic failure list: a run capacitor drifted below its rated microfarads, a contactor with pitted points, a condenser fan motor with bearing play, a float switch nobody has ever tested wet. Every one of those is a part, not a system. It is also exactly the age at which a contractor's incentive runs the other way, because a twelve-year-old unit is old enough to make a replacement pitch sound reasonable to somebody who has no way to check. So here is what to ask for, from us or from anyone: the measured reading, the specific part, and the repair price next to the replacement price. If a technician cannot show you a capacitor reading below spec or an amp draw over nameplate, there is nothing to act on yet.

The same thing is true wherever you are

A refrigerant top-off with no leak search is not a repair. Refrigerant is not consumed — if the charge is low, it left through a hole, and it will leave again through the same hole. Any shop can sell you a pound of refrigerant on a hot afternoon and you will be pleased with them for about six weeks. We will find the leak and price fixing it, and if you want a charge to get you through a weekend while you decide, we will do that too and tell you plainly what it is buying you. We also will not quote a repair over the phone. Anyone who does is quoting a part they have not seen on a system they have not measured.

Questions people ask

  • How fast can you get here?

Often the same day during business hours. Nights, weekends and holidays we run an emergency rotation and a technician calls you back. Comfort Club members get scheduled ahead of non-members, which is most of what people join for in July.

  • Do you charge for the diagnostic?

Yes, there is a flat diagnostic fee for a service call, and we tell you what it is on the phone before we dispatch. It is waived for Gold and Platinum Comfort Club members.

  • My system is low on refrigerant. Can you just add some?

We can, and on its own that is a bad deal for you. Refrigerant does not get used up — if it is low, it left through a leak, and it will leave again. We will find the leak and price the repair. If you want a charge to get through a weekend while you decide, we will do that too, and tell you plainly what it is buying you.

  • Repair or replace?

The rule of thumb we actually use: if the repair is more than about a third of a replacement and the system is past twelve, replacement usually wins. Under that, fix it. The refrigerant a system uses moves that line too, because an older refrigerant on a leaking coil changes the arithmetic.

  • Do you work on systems you did not install?

    Yes, on any residential brand.
