Heat Pump Repair in Woodstock, GA
24/7 emergency service
Broken at 2am? That's the number.
(770) 555-0187No heat under 40° · No cooling over 85° · Gas smell · Water on the floor · A breaker that keeps tripping
One number, day or night, holidays included. It rings a rotation of our own technicians, not an answering service in another state.
Heat pumps fail differently from furnaces: a reversing valve stuck in the wrong mode, a defrost board that has quit, backup heat strips running all winter and quietly tripling your power bill. We find out which of those it is instead of just topping off refrigerant and leaving.
What's included
- Mode verification — the system run in both heating and cooling with temperatures taken at the coil
- Reversing valve and its solenoid tested rather than assumed
- Defrost control and sensor checked, and a defrost cycle forced and watched
- Backup heat staging and lockout verified, because strips running as first-stage heat is a billing problem, not a comfort one
- Amp draw on each heat strip element, which finds the failed one and the stuck contactor
- Charge assessed against the manufacturer's target, in the mode the system is actually running
- Outdoor coil, fan and defrost drainage inspected
- Auxiliary heat call logged at the thermostat where the thermostat supports it
How the visit actually goes
We ask what your power bill did
A heat pump with a failed defrost board or a stuck contactor often still heats the house. The complaint is the bill, not the temperature, and a technician who only checks whether warm air comes out will not find it.
We run it in both modes
A reversing valve stuck part-way is the classic heat pump fault and it looks like low charge on gauges. Running the system both ways with a probe on the coil separates the two in about ten minutes.
We meter the backup heat
Each element, individually, with a clamp meter, plus the sequencers or contactors that stage them. Strips energised whenever the compressor runs is a wiring or control fault, and it is the single most expensive one to leave in place.
We repair it and force a defrost before we leave
So the thing you called about is confirmed working in the condition it actually failed in, rather than in the condition that is convenient to test.

Questions people ask before booking
My outdoor unit is steaming and covered in ice. Is that broken?
Steaming is normal — that is a defrost cycle finishing, and it should clear the coil in ten minutes or so. Ice that never clears, or a solid block of ice on the bottom of the unit, is a defrost fault or a drainage problem and it does need a visit.
Why is my power bill so much higher this winter than last?
The usual answer is backup heat running when it should not be — a failed defrost control, a stuck contactor, a thermostat wired so the strips come on with the compressor, or a switchover set far warmer than the system needs. All four are findable in one visit and none of them shows up as a comfort complaint.
How fast can you get here?
No heat under 40 degrees or no cooling over 85 is an emergency call and we run them around the clock. Otherwise, often the same day during business hours.
Is a heat pump repair more expensive than a furnace repair?
Not inherently, but the parts differ. A reversing valve replacement is a refrigerant-circuit job and costs accordingly; a defrost board or a contactor does not. We give you the number and the replacement number together when the age of the system makes that the real question.
Do you work on systems you did not install?
Yes, on any residential brand.
The person who shows up
The after-hours rotation is our own technicians rather than an answering service. This is one of them.

Tim runs the service board and takes the after-hours calls that come in past midnight. Nineteen years in the trade, eighteen of them here. He is the person who will tell you your system has four good years left instead of selling you one tonight.
